It had been raining and so cold in the past few days that I hadn’t been able to see a nice view of the cherry blossoms this year until last Saturday. We were planning to join a hanami picnic on Saturday, which we do with our friends every year, so I was seriously keeping an eye on the weather forecast all week. Around this time of year, there are also cherry blosoom farecasts. Of course, I was checking them many times a day.
It is extremely hard to predict the best time to see cherry blossoms in full bloom, and the petals easily fall when it rains or are blown away by the wind, so we often miss the perfect timing for hanami. Even when we miss the time, we can still enjoy spending time together under the trees, with a few early-blooming flowers and buds, or even some scattering petals, so that’s ok.
Last Saturday, it was sunny for the first time in a while, and the cherry blossoms in the park in that area were in full bloom. It was perfect. I was happy to see such an extraordinarily beautiful and heartwarming view, and got a bit drunk.
